Starting something new always carries a mixture of excitement and uncertainty. Launching this site is no different. For me, it feels like opening the door to a space where I can bring together all the strands of my writing the self-help books, public domain classics, and the unfolding story of The Dark and then share them with you in one place.
Over the years, I have come to believe that books can do more than entertain. They can guide us, challenge us, and sometimes give us the words we did not even know we needed. That is what I hope to offer here. Some of what you find will be practical: reflections on habits, productivity, sleep, and focus, drawn from the themes of my published books. Other posts will be literary: introductions to the public domain works I have republished, each with their own place in the history of writing. And then, somewhere between the two, you will encounter The Dark,a strange, atmospheric story that has grown piece by piece, and which I continue to develop.
This blog is not meant to be polished or distant. My hope is that it feels more like a conversation. I will share what I am working on, what I am reading, and what I am thinking about. Sometimes that will mean a practical tip you can put into use the same day. Sometimes it will be a reflection on a book written more than a century ago, but still worth reading today. Sometimes it will simply be a piece of writing that is meant to be experienced, like wandering through the shadowy halls of The Dark.
A word about the public domain books. I have always been fascinated by older literature, especially the kind that slips through the cracks of memory. Many wonderful stories and essays are freely available because of their age, but they are often overlooked. By creating new editions with introductions and context, I hope to give these works a fresh audience. It is a way of honouring the past while bringing it into the present.
At the same time, I know that life is lived here and now, with all its challenges. That is why my other writing, my “habit” books and related self-help titles all focus on the daily practices that can make a real difference. Whether it is building focus, improving sleep, or simply finding a way to start the day with more energy, these are the small steps that lead to lasting change. I want this blog to extend that same spirit: practical, encouraging, and realistic.
If you have followed my earlier site, The Dark 44, you will recognise some familiar threads. Think of this new space as the next step forward. It allows me to bring everything together, while also creating room to grow.
So what can you expect if you return here? Regular posts that touch on the themes of my books, updates on current projects, thoughts on the classics I am revisiting, and new instalments of The Dark. My hope is that, over time, this site will feel like a library you can wander through: sometimes practical, sometimes imaginative, but always welcoming.
Thank you for visiting. I hope you will find something here that speaks to you, whether it is a useful idea, an old story rediscovered, or a fragment of fiction that lingers in the mind. Most of all, I hope you enjoy what you read.
